KI Martial Arts

The first hapkido school opened in February 12, 1951, by Choi Young Sul (1899-1986), the founder of our art. Due to the Japanese occupation of Korea, Choi Young Sul trained in the martial art of daitoryu aikijujutsu (founded in 1087), under his adopted father, Takeda Sokaku; (1858-1943), the head of the art at the time.

Upon the death of Takeda in 1943, Choi Young Sul returned to Korea and over the course of time, developed hapkido. Over the centuries, the techniques found in hapkido have been proven effective in self defense.
